DO NOT PUT YOURSELF IN DANGER!

Always check the scene for safety, avoiding any harm to yourself while trying to help others in need of care.

There are certain situations that should always prompt a call to 9-1-1 or your designated emergency number.

Immediately call for emergency assistance if the situation involves: fire, explosion or a gas leak; poisonous or chemical hazards or spills; downed electrical wires; motor vehicle accident; presence of a suspicious substance; rapidly rising water or swift moving water; multiple victims; victims that can not be easily moved or cared for.

If the scene is not safe, wait for 9-1-1 or advanced medical assistance to arrive before helping.
