Providing First Aid Care

46%
For SEVERE Medical Emergencies:
Call 911
or your designated emergency number
Otherwise:
Seek Appropriate
Medical Care

The first steps in providing care - after checking that the scene is safe - is to grab available first aid and personal protective supplies and an AED, if available.

Identify yourself and ask the victim for permission to provide care if they are responsive.

If permission is refused, do not proceed and be sure you call 9-1-1 or your designated emergency contact number for further assistance.

Once you begin first aid, don't stop until someone with equal or advanced training takes over unless your own life is in danger or you are unable to continue.

Stay with the victim until advanced care arrives and provide reassurance to the victim and others at the scene.
